SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women’s basketball team will make their first NCAA Tournament appearance in over a decade after a strong season.

After finishing the season in the top 50 in the NET rankings, Utah women’s basketball will be going to the big dance but will find out what seed, where they will play and who their opponent is on Selection Sunday.

Latest NCAA Tournament Projection For Utah Women’s Basketball

According to ESPN women’s basketball bracketologist Charlie Creme, Utah will be an 8-seed in the Wichita Region, facing 9-seed Kansas in the first round. If Utah was able to beat the Jayhawks, they will likely face 1-seed Louisville in the second round if the Cardinals beat 16-seed Albany. An interesting note in the projection is that BYU is in the same region as the Utes as a 5-seed facing 12-seed winner of the play-in game between Dayton and Villanova. Should Utah and BYU reach the Sweet 16, they will battle each other for a spot in the Elite Eight.

If ESPN’s projections are correct on Sunday, the SEC will have the most teams in the NCAA Tournament with nine, followed by the ACC with eight. The Big Ten, Pac-12 and Big 12 are expected to have six teams each in the field.

Other Pac-12 teams that are expected to be in the tournament includes Stanford as a 1-seed in the Spokane Region and hosting their first round matchup against 16-seed Hawai’i. Arizona is projected as a 4-seed in the Greensboro Region, hosting their first and second round matchups. They are projected to face 13-seed UNLV in the first round.

The other three Pac-12 teams are projected to be in the Bridgeport Region. Oregon is a 5-seed facing 12-seed UMass in Norman, Oklahoma. Colorado is an 8-seed, taking on 9-seed Arkansas in Raleigh, North Carolina. Washington State is an 11-seed facing 6-seed Ole Miss in Iowa City.

The No. 1 seeds in the projection is South Carolina, Stanford, Louisville and NC State.

The NCAA Women’s Basketball Selection Show will be on Sunday, March 13 at 5 p.m. MT on ESPN.
