SALT LAKE CITY – The first season of the Craig Smith era has come to a close with Utah basketball lost to Washington 82-70 in the Pac-12 Tournament.

It was a turnover filled game for Utah basketball as they committed 16 TO’s in their Pac-12 Tournament loss to Washington. Marco Anthony led the Utes with 18 points and three rebounds. Branden Carlson dropped 14 points and six rebounds. Gabe Madsen added 12 points.

For Washington, Terrell Brown Jr. had 22 points to lead the way. Jamal Bey poured in 19 points and four rebounds. Washington scored 21 points off of Utah’s 16 turnovers. The Huskies did a remarkable job of taking care of the ball, committing just five turnovers and Utah scoring just two points off of those miscues.

Turnovers Hurt Utah Basketball In Pac-12 Tournament Loss To Washington

The first seven minutes of the game was a back-and-forth affair. Utah was getting the ball inside with shots from Branden Carlson and Marco Anthony, as they were finding the open spots in Washington’s zone defense.

The Utes were shooting 37% midway through the first half and held Washington to 33%, while holding a 13-10 lead. It wasn’t necessarily a run by Washington slowly took the lead and extended it to three points, 24-21 with 7:08 remaining in the first half.

Cole Bajema was really hurting the Runnin’ Utes in the first half, pouring in 11 points on 2-of-3 shooting from the three-point line. Washington had a 34-30 lead when the final media timeout of the first half rolled around.

The Huskies had a 40-37 halftime lead. Along with Bajema’s 11 points, the Pac-12 leading scorer Terrell Brown Jr. had 10 points and four assists in the first half. Marco Anthony dropped 11 points, while Gabe Madsen and Branden Carlson added six points apiece.

Washington took their largest lead to that point in the game of 11 on a 12-2 run with under 11 minutes remaining. Turnovers was a big issue as the Runnin’ Utes committed seven of them in a span of six minutes.

Utah ended their season with an 11-20 overall record and 4-17 in Pac-12 play.
