Kalani Sitake Takes Break From Spring Ball To Cheer BYU Hoops In Vegas

LAS VEGAS – BYU football coach Kalani Sitake has always said he bleeds blue. The seventh-year head coach would be the first to tell you he grew up a BYU fan as a kid in the shadows of the school, then he had the chance to play under LaVell Edwards, and now he’s leading his alma mater.

Sitake showed his passionate fandom of BYU athletics on Saturday night. The always animated Sitake, who’s known to bust out some moves on the dance floor, was enjoying a night in Las Vegas with the intensity of March college basketball taking center stage.

Moments after the BYU men’s basketball team tipped off in a critical quarterfinals tilt in the WCC Tournament against San Francisco, Sitake nestled into his courtside seat at The Orleans Arena. From the moment he sat down, he was locked in to support Mark Pope’s group battling to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Sitake’s quick trip to Vegas comes at the end of BYU football’s first week of spring practices. The BYU football team has completed a pair of back-to-back double-digit win seasons. BYU will wrap up its 15-practice spring season on March 31.

Since BYU basketball hired Mark Pope as head coach, the two leaders of BYU’s most visible athletic programs have shown a good friendship. Over the past two years, both Kalani Sitake and Mark Pope have held coaches’ shows together and have given high praise to one another for how they lead their respective teams.
