Jazz Center Soars For Fast Break First Quarter Throw Down

SALT LAKE CITY – Jazz forward Royce O’Neale found Rudy Gobert trailing on the fast break for a rim-rattling first quarter throw down.

The new look New Orleans Pelicans hosted the Jazz at Smoothie King Arena in New Orleans, LA on Friday, March 4.

With the Jazz trailing the Pelicans 14-7 with 6:38 remaining, Mike Conley stole the ball from Brandon Ingram, triggering a fast break. O’Neale found the ball in his hands with Gobert trailing at the free throw line. A quick two-handed touch pass found Gobert soaring to the rim for his second dunk of the night.

In a matchup of two of the hottest teams in the NBA, the Pelicans currently sit in the 10th seed in the Western Conference, they’ve won six of their last 10 games, and haven’t lost since the All-Star break.

The Jazz owned the best record in the Western Conference in February, finishing 8-1, and seeing head coach Quin Snyder taking home the Coach of the Month award for their efforts.

Utah shot just 41.2 percent in the quarter, going into the break trailing 35-17.

New Orleans shot 65 percent from the field and knocked down four three’s during the opening quarter.

A three-time all-star, Gobert is averaging a career-high 15.9 points per game while shooting a league leading 71 percent from the field. Gobert finished the quarter with five points and a pair of rebounds.
