Utah State Snaps Four-Game Skid With Blowout Win Over New Mexico

LOGAN, Utah – The Utah State Aggies snapped their four-game losing streak with an 81-56 blowout win over the New Mexico Lobos on Tuesday night at home.

Justin Bean’s double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds led Utah State to victory over New Mexico. Brandon Horvath dropped 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Sean Bairstow had 12 points and four boards, while Steven Ashworth added 10 points. Brock Miller made his first appearance after missing the last 14 games. He had three points in 12 minutes.

For New Mexico, Jamal Mashburn Jr. led the way with 13 points. K.J. Jenkins chipped in 12 points, while Jay Allen-Tovar added 11 points off the bench.

After New Mexico scored first, Utah State went on a 10-0 run before the Lobos called a timeout. That lead was extended to 24-9 midway through the first half. The Aggies held a 38-21 lead heading into the halftime break.

Justin Bean nearly had a double-double in the first half, finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds. Sean Bairstow added eight points. Utah State shot 53% from the field and 33% from the three-point line.

New Mexico struggled, shooting 30% from the floor and just 2-of-9 from beyond the arc.

The Aggies didn’t give New Mexico any chance of coming back in the second half by outscoring the Lobos 43-35. Their hot shooting continued by shooting 51% in the second half, including 4-of-10 from the three-point line.

Utah State improved their record to 16-13 overall and 7-9 in Mountain West Conference play. They will have Senior Night on Saturday, February 26 against Colorado State. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. MT on FS1 and heard on The Zone Sports Network.
