Slow Start Dooms Dixie State In Loss To New Mexico State

SALT LAKE CITY – The Dixie State Trailblazers struggled in the first half that ultimately ended in a 75-64 loss on the road to New Mexico State.
New Mexico State outscored Dixie State 37-25 in the first half before the Trailblazers turned things around by outscoring the Aggies 39-38 in the second half.
Hunter Schofield led DSU with 14 points and four rebounds on 5-of-13 shooting from the field in 34 minutes on the floor. Dancell Leter poured in 13 points. Frank Staine had 11 points, five rebounds and five assists. Trey Edmonds added 10 points off the bench in 11 minutes.
Dixie State shot 43% from the field, 32% from the three-point line and 58% from the free throw line.

NMSU outrebounded DSU 38-25 and had 16 second chance points. The Aggies were led by Teddy Allen with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Johnny McCants posted 17 points and six boards. Mike Peake had 12 points and five rebounds, while Mario McKinney Jr. added 10 points off the bench.
New Mexico State shot 44% from the floor, just 17% from beyond the arc and 71% from the foul line.
Dixie State dropped their record to 12-14 overall and 5-8 in WAC play. They will return to Burns Arena in St. George on Saturday, February 19 to host rival Utah Valley at 7 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
