Utah State Tops San Jose State For Fourth Straight Win

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah State Aggies picked up their fourth straight win with a 78-62 victory over San Jose State on Thursday night in Logan.

After a tightly contested first half, Utah State was able to pull away after outscoring San Jose State 44-29 in the second half. The Aggies went through a stretch from January 12-20 where they lost four straight games by a combined total of 17 points.

Now, USU has won four straight games by a combined margin of 90 points. They are in the middle of playing three home conference games this week with one day off in between each game that started on Tuesday in their win over Air Force.

Utah State Cruises Past San Jose State With Big Second Half

Three Utah State players scored in double figures, including two with double-doubles. Brandon Horvath led the way with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Justin Bean dropped 18 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. R.J. Eytle-Rock chipped in 11 points, while Steven Ashworth added nine points.

The Aggies shot 46% (31-67) from the field, 34% (10-29) from the three-point line and 54% (6-11) at the free throw line. They were able to get 34 points in the paint, 11 points off of turnovers and 15 bench points.

Three Spartans scored in double figures, led by Trey Smith with 14 points, including 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Myron Amey Jr. dropped 11 points off the bench, while Omari Moore added 10 points and six assists.

San Jose State shot 46% (23-50) from the field, 50% (10-20) from the perimeter and 50% (6-12) from the foul line. They had 24 points in the paint, 23 bench points and just nine points off of turnovers.

Utah State improved their record 14-9 overall and 5-5 in Mountain West Conference play. They will return to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday, February 5 to battle UNLV at 4 p.m. MT on CBS Sports Network and The Zone Sports Network.
