Jazz To Celebrate Black History Month Throughout February

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz are taking part in several events to recognize Black History Month throughout February.

The team announced that over the next four weeks they plan to promote black-owned businesses while celebrating Black culture through the Black Experience.

The celebration will include events on the team’s website, Jazz television broadcasts, social media, and at Vivint Arena during games.

“The Jazz embrace the responsibility and opportunity to use their platform for positive change in the community and we are committed to enhanced efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable future,” said Chief Experience Officer Andrea Williams in a release from the team.

“We are excited to celebrate the richness and vibrancy of Black culture as American culture by highlighting its unique talents, contributions and creativity.”

The Jazz Black History Month celebration also includes the release of a first-ever short film, Jazz player videos, support for a local gallery event, and a fan art design contest.

The short film was produced by the Jazz creative team and explores the complexities and richness of Black life and family in the production of “Sunday Dinner,” the traditional gathering to connect and share around a meal.

The film will debut at the FICE Gallery.

Meanwhile, Mike Conley, Royce O’Neale, Rudy Gay, Eric Paschall, and Trent Forrest all sat down to create player videos highlighting their favorite Black actors, artists, and musicians, and the favorite parts of their own culture.

The Jazz are also participating in a new paid fellowship program for undergraduate and graduate students in 2022.

The program led by the NBA Foundation will offer students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities the opportunity to gain real-life insights and professional experience around the business and operations of basketball at NBA and WNBA teams.
