Former BYU TE, Ex-NFL Coach Joins Arizona State’s Coaching Staff

SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU tight end and ex-Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick joined Herm Edwards’ staff with the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Billick was hired as offensive analyst and adviser for ASU on Monday, January 24.
The former head coach last coached in the NFL in 2007. He is the third former NFL head coach on Arizona State’s coaching staff, joining Edwards and ex-Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis.
“I love what they are doing at ASU,” Billick said in a statement. “It’s all about structure in the NFL and hopefully that’s what I can bring to the table at ASU. My work for the last 12 years in television at Fox and the NFL Network has allowed me to take a step back and see the game from a different angle. It broadened my perspective and that is what I will bring to this position.”

The Redlands, California native spent his first year of college at the Air Force Academy before transferring to BYU. He played tight end for the Cougars from 1974-76.
Following his college career, Billick was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 11th round of the 1977 NFL Draft.
After a short stint in the NFL, Billick returned to Provo to be a graduate assistant for legendary BYU head coach LaVell Edwards.
Billick was on Edwards’ staff for the 1978 season. Following his coaching debut with the Cougars, Billick spent time as an assistant coach at San Diego State, Utah State, and Stanford. He last coached in college in 1991.
The Minnesota Vikings gave him his first gig in the NFL as tight end coach in 1992. He became the Vikings’ offensive coordinator in 1994. After the 1998 season, the Ravens hired Billick as their head coach.
Billick coached in Baltimore until the end of the 2007 season. His time in the league was highlighted by leading the Ravens to a championship in Super Bowl XXXV.

He ended his NFL career with an 85-67 record, including 5-3 in the postseason.
Recently, Billick had been working as an analyst for NFL Network.
