BYU’s Alex Barcello Breaks Ankles Of San Diego Guard With Filthy Handles

PROVO, Utah – BYU guard Alex Barcello is putting together an All-American season in his final year with the Cougars. He put together a highlight-worthy moment to add to his special season on Thursday night.
Barcello showed off the handles with a crossover on San Diego guard Bryce Monroe, the definition of breaking ankles.

The play happened with 7:36 remaining in the first half. Barcello was behind the three-point line with Monroe on him. The senior guard from Arizona put the ball on the deck and drove near the free-throw line stepped back, sending Monroe to the floor. It was a classic ankle breaker that put him on skates; whatever you want to call it, Barcello made it happen by showing off some great handles.

With Monroe into the distance, Barcello, dubbed by ESPN’s Jay Bilas as the best shooter in America, was left wide open for a mid-range jumper. Barcello knocked it down to give BYU a 23-19 lead over the Toreros.
BYU’s student section, “The ROC,” made sure to remind Monroe of Barcello’s handles by chanting “ankles, ankles, ankles” every time he touched the ball.

Alex Barcello turned down opportunities to play professionally in favor of playing one more year at BYU. He’s making it a memorable one.
