PROVO, Utah – BYU football quarterback Baylor Romney is moving on.

Romney joined the BYU program back in 2018 and stepped in as a starting QB in five games during his career. He posted a 4-1 record in those starts.

Romney announced his decision to move on via his personal social media accounts.

“The past four years have been filled with ups and downs but I am thankful for the memories I have made and the person I have become while playing football at BYU,” wrote Romney. “My teammates have become my brothers and I’ll miss them the most. I am thankful for the lifelong relationships I have been able to make. Thank you to all my coaches, family, and friends for your love and support!”

When Romney arrived at BYU in 2018, he was a preferred walk-on that climbed the ladder of a program that featured QBs Zach Wilson and Jaren Hall.

A native of El Paso, Texas, Romney is still mulling over his next chapter will be going forward.

”I’m unsure what’s next but it’s time for me to move on and I’m excited for the next challenge. Go Cougs!”

His name has entered the NCAA’s Transfer Portal.

Romney was part of a three-man quarterback battle this past August against Jaren Hall and freshman Jacob Conover. Hall won the job, with Romney finishing second in the pecking order.

Romney stepped in for an injured Hall to close out an upset win over Arizona State and he also guided BYU to wins over USF and Utah State, before he suffered a concussion against the Aggies.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound signal caller made his final BYU appearance in the 2021 Independence Bowl against UAB. Romney started in replace of an injured Hall who was dealing with a foot injury.
