LOS ANGELES – ESPN’s lead college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit is impressed with what he has seen with the Utah football team during the 2021 season.
Kirk Herbstreit will call the 108th Rose Bowl Game on Saturday, January 1, 2022 between Utah and Ohio State.
He spoke to the media on a Zoom call on Monday to preview the matchup. KSL Sports asked the former Buckeyes quarterback about Utah’s season.
Kirk Herbstreit is on a Zoom call with the media right now to preview the Michigan/Georgia game and Utah/Ohio State. I was able to get a question in about Devin Lloyd.
Herbstreit said that Lloyd won the "Ultimate Herbie" award. More on that coming up.#GoUtes @kslsports

“I have been in awe of their season,” Herbstreit said. “Losing one player, and then losing another player who is honoring and wearing the jersey and you know, the families involved there and the team going back to the funerals, and then starting the year 1-2, and then making a switch at quarterback to Cam (Rising). Then to fight through all that and really stay incredibly unified through all that. They’ve been one of the great stories of the year in college football.”
The Utes started the season 1-2 after beating Weber State in the season opener before dropping two straight to BYU and San Diego State. They made a quarterback change from Charlie Brewer to Cam Rising.
With Rising under center, Utah finished the season 9-1 and won their first Pac-12 Championship in program history.
Utah will face Ohio State in the Rose Bowl on Saturday at 3 p.m. MT on ESPN.
