BYU Women’s Volleyball Finishes WCC Play With Undefeated Record

PROVO, Utah – Everyone is winning in Provo these days, including the BYU Women’s Volleyball program.
On Tuesday, the No. 4 ranked Cougars capped off a perfect West Coast Conference schedule with a 3-1 victory over the San Diego Toreros in America’s Finest City.

With the victory, BYU closed out the regular season with a 28-1 record and a perfect 18-0 mark in WCC play. It’s the first time in 28 years that BYU has finished conference play with a perfect record. That was two conferences ago when BYU was in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
BYU is the first WCC team to go undefeated in West Coast Conference play since San Diego did it in 2004. So it was only fitting that BYU capped off their perfect mark against the same Torero program.
The Cougars opened the match strong in set number one, defeating USD 25-10. San Diego then won set two 25-14, with BYU coming away victories in sets three (25-21) and four (25-22) to complete the undefeated league season.
BYU finished the match with 48 kills and had a 25.7 hit percentage to USD’s 18.3%. Kenzie Koerber continues to be a star for BYU, the 6-foot-3 graduate transfer from Utah finished with 13 kills to lead the way for the Cougars.
Next up for BYU Women’s Volleyball: NCAA Tournament play
BYU now sets their sights on the NCAA Tournament, where they are one of the nation’s top teams entering the 64-team field on a 21-match winning streak. This season, their lone loss was to Pittsburgh, who is currently No. 3 in the Top 25 rankings.
With BYU clinching the West Coast Conference championship last week, they’ll have an automatic bid in the tourney. BYU will find out all of the specifics with their draw this Sunday during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show at 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
