No. 23 Utah Rolls Over No. 3 Oregon For Pac-12 Statement Win

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah football program made a statement in the game of the year in the Pac-12 with a 38-7 win over No. 3 Oregon.
With the win, Utah has clinched their third Pac-12 South Division title in the last four years.
Cam Rising completed 10 of his 18 pass attempts for 178 yards, along with five carries for eight yards and one touchdown. Tavion Thomas returned after missing the Arizona game and racked up 94 yards and three TD’s.

First Quarter
Both Utah and Oregon punted on their first possessions of the game. The Utes took over six minutes off the clock by running 13 plays and going 63 yards for a touchdown that was scored by Tavion Thomas. That was his first of the game and 15th of the season. He is tied for the single season rushing touchdown record at Utah.
The Utes led the Ducks 7-0 with 4:40 left in the opening period.

Cole Bishop blocked a field goal attempt by Oregon and kept the Ducks scoreless in the first quarter.

Second Quarter
Midway through the second quarter, Utah had another long drive that resulted in a one-yard TD run by Cam Rising. That ended a 9-play, 80-yard drive. The Utes held a 14-0 lead with 5:08 left in the first half.

Late in the first half, Tavion Thomas broke the single season school record with a four-yard rushing touchdown. He now has 16 TD’s this season which broke the record held by John White IV and Zack Moss. Utah held a 21-0 lead over Oregon with 27 seconds left in the half.

Utah couldn’t have asked for a better ending to the second quarter when Britain Covey returned a punt for a 78-yard touchdown. Utah went to the locker room with a 28-0 lead.

Third Quarter
Oregon got the ball to start the third quarter. The Ducks were able to get a touchdown as Anthony Brown found Devon Brown for a 36-yard strike. Utah’s lead was trimmed to 28-7 with 10:02 remaining in the third.
Utah answered with another “grind-out drive,” where they needed 11-plays to get Tavion Thomas into the end zone for the third time in the game. Utah took a 35-7 lead with 3:49 left in the third.

Fourth Quarter
Utah was at the Oregon two-yard line when Cam Rising fumbled the ball but Brant Kuithe recovered it. The Utes settled for a field goal to make it 38-7 with 7:32 left in the game.
