Weber State Opens Jersey Mike’s Classic With Win Over UMass

SALT LAKE CITY – The Weber State men’s basketball program opened the 2021 Jersey Mike’s Classic tournament with a double-digit victory over the UMass Minutemen.
The Wildcats and Minutemen played at the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Florida on Thursday, November 18.
Weber State defeated UMass, 88-73.

After a tight first half that saw the Wildcats take a two-point lead into the locker room at halftime, Weber State’s offense explode during the final 20 minutes of game time.
Weber State started the second half with a 36-34 advantage.

Over the final 20 minutes of action, the Wildcats outscore the Minutemen, 52-39.
Weber State finished the game shooting a blazing 58.6 percent from the field, including 52.4 percent from three-point range.
JJ Overton led the Wildcats with 21 points on 9-11 field goals.

Weber State limited UMass to 45.2 percent shooting overall and 35.1 percent from distance.
With the win, the Wildcats improved their record to 3-0 on the season.
Weber State’s next game is against Ball State on Friday, November 19 at 3:30 p.m. (MDT).
