Dixie State Suffers Blowout Loss To No. 1 Sam Houston State

SALT LAKE CITY – The Dixie State Trailblazers couldn’t get much going on either side of the ball in their 59-10 loss to No. 1 Sam Houston State.

Kobe Tracy completed 28 of his 48 pass attempts for 240 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Dixie State allowed Sam Houston State to rack up 403 yards on the ground and nearly 600 yards of total offense.

The Bearcats took their time on their first possession, running 10 plays for 75 yards, ending in a touchdown. They scored another touchdown just 17 seconds later when Jahari Kay recovered a fumble and took it three yards into the end zone.

Five minutes later, Sam Houston blocked a field goal and returned it 64-yards for a TD. They added a fourth touchdown late in the first quarter to take a 28-0 lead. SHU had two rushing TD’s in the second quarter while holding DSU scoreless. The Bearcats made a field goal as time expired in the first half to take a 45-0 lead into the halftime break.

Dixie State had seven drives in the first half. They fumbled once, turned it over on downs and threw a pick. The Trailblazers also missed two field goal attempts and punted twice. Sam Houston State had eight drives in the first half, scoring six touchdowns, one field goal and throwing one interception.

After a 63-yard rushing TD by Sam Houston, Dixie State scored a 23-yard field goal for their first points of the game. Early in the fourth quarter, Dixie State found the end zone as Kobe Tracy found Keith Davis for a 27-yard TD to cut the deficit to 52-10.

Sam Houston added a 47-yard rushing touchdown with 6:51 to play in the game.

Dixie State dropped their record to 0-9 on the season. They will return to Greater Zion Stadium on Saturday, November 13 to host Fort Lewis at 7 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
