SALT LAKE CITY – Oregon Ducks offensive lineman Kingsley Suamataia has entered the Transfer Portal.

The 6-foot-6, 317-pound offensive tackle from Orem High was in his first season with the Ducks. During his career at Orem, the Tigers won four consecutive state championships.

Suamataia began receiving scholarship offers when he was in eighth grade, where he later evolved into one of the nation’s top recruits in the 2021 recruiting cycle. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Suamatia was a four-star recruit. He finished as the 36th ranked recruit in the country.

Oregon signed 23 players in their 2021 recruiting class and Suamataia was the highest-rated recruit from the sixth-rated class nationally.

Before committing to the Ducks, Suamataia had a final seven of schools the featured BYU, Utah, and Utah State. The rest of the last seven in his recruitment was Arkansas, USC, and Virginia.

BYU was the first school to offer Suamataia back in 2017.

Suamataia enrolled at Oregon this past January as a true freshman and has only played in one game for the Ducks. His lone appearance took place on September 18, 2021, a 48-7 win over FCS Stony Brook.

Throughout the season on Oregon’s official depth chart, Suamatia has been listed as a backup at left tackle along with Dawson Jaramillo this season. Both are reserves behind senior George Moore.

With only playing in one game, this season would count as a redshirt for Suamatia, giving the former Orem standout a full four years to play four at his next school.

While in the Transfer Portal, student-athletes can return to the original school, but once they’ve entered, they can receive contact from other institutions.

The NCAA grants undergrad transfers a one-time waiver to be eligible to play immediately at their next school.
