No. 21 Orem Cruises Past No. 12 Brighton For Big First Round Win

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The 21st ranked Orem Tigers had a dominating performance in their 42-22 win over No. 12 Brighton in the first round of the state playoffs.
The Tigers had a 28-0 halftime lead that turned into a big upset over Brighton. Cole Johnson had four rushing touchdowns to lead the way for Orem. Mack Hixson added a rushing touchdown, while Chase Tuatagaloa threw a TD pass to Lance Reynolds.
Orem will take on No. 5 Provo on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
Here are all of the results from the 5A classification in the first round of the state playoffs.
No. 17 Alta 54 @ No. 16 Uintah 13
Ethan Jackson threw for five touchdown passes, finding Noah Flores and Maika Kaufusi twice each, while hitting Jensen Campbell once. Anson Jaramillo added two rushing TD’s in the win for Alta.
Alta will face No. 1 Springville on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 24 Box Elder 22 @ No. 9 Tooele 14
Daxton Sumko ran in a touchdown with just over one minute remaining in the game to take an eight-point lead to pull off the upset. Sumko also caught a touchdown pass from Cooper Stevenson and recovered a fumble for a touchdown.
Box Elder will battle No. 8 Timpanogos on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 20 Park City 27 @ No. 13 Skyline 10
Blake Tabaracci threw a touchdown pass to William McCurdy and also ran in a TD. Carson Tabaracci scored on the ground, while Stone Combs had a pick-six. Bo Tate scored the only TD for Skyline.
Park City will square off with No. 4 Bountiful on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 18 Northridge 26 @ No. 15 Bonneville 28
The Lakers held a 28-14 lead midway through the third quarter before Northridge tried to come back but managed to score 12 points after missing a PAT and failing a two-point conversion. Koy Dixon threw two touchdown passes to Parker Armstrong and Lucas Victorino, while also running in a score. Kord Shaw added a rushing TD for Bonneville. Maximus Fonoti-Maikui threw a TD pass to Zach Smith, while AJ Tillman ran in three scores on the ground for Northridge.
Bonneville will face No. 2 Timpview on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.

No. 23 Maple Mountain 20 @ No. 10 Wasatch 55
The Wasps had a 48-20 lead heading into the fourth quarter and cruised to a first round win. Christopher Cook and Quezon Villa each ran in two touchdowns for Wasatch. Joshua Sanders added a pick-six.
Wasatch will battle No. 7 Lehi on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 19 Payson 21 @ No. 14 Olympus 49
The Titans jumped out to a 39-7 lead at the half and coasted to a first round win. Seth Roberts threw two touchdown passes, finding Ty Seagle and Anthony Olsen. Luke Bryant, Ryan Reynard and Seagle all ran in one touchdown each.
Olympus will square off with No. 3 Stansbury on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
No. 22 East 35 @ No. 11 Cedar Valley 7
The Leopards didn’t seem to care about their seeding as they picked up a dominating win on the road in the first round. Sione Vailahi led the way with three rushing touchdowns. Sailosi Amone and Kevyn Little each added one TD on the ground.
East will take on No. 6 Spanish Fork on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. MT.
