BYU-Washington State Mascots Hilariously Depicted In Popular Meme

PULLMAN, Washington – BYU-Washington State haven’t played much over the years. Saturday’s meeting will be only the fifth time the two teams have ever met on the gridiron. It’s the first matchup since 2012 and the game will mark BYU’s first-ever trip to Martin Stadium.
But despite the lack of games against one another, these two teams have one big thing in common; they are both Cougars.

Washington State Football’s official Twitter account tweeted out a graphic with the caption, “Cougs vs Cougs.” The graphic featured Washington State’s Butch the Cougar and BYU’s Cosmo in the famous Spider-Man pointing meme remake.

For those who don’t know what a meme is, it’s a funny picture or video that often gets spread with different internet variations. For example, the Spider-Man pointing meme has grown popular on Twitter over the last handful of years to highlight similarities between two things.

Two teams with Cougars as their mascots would definitely fall under a similar category.
Now, if we’re sizing up the mascots alone, it’s hard for Washington State’s Butch to stay “similar” with Cosmo. After all, BYU’s Cosmo won a mascot National Championship and is still putting out impressive dance routines with the Cougarettes each football season.
Bring on more memes
Still, the usage of the Spider-Man meme is a fun addition to a week that has been centered around challenging storylines with the dismissal of Nick Rolovich as head coach. Rolovich and four of his assistant coaches were fired for not complying with the state of Washington’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. So, a lighthearted recreation of a meme is never a bad thing.
BYU versus Washington State kicks off on Saturday, October 23, at 1:30 p.m. from Pullman. The game will be televised on FS1. In addition, you can listen to the broadcast on KSL NewsRadio (102.7 FM, 1160 AM) with coverage beginning at 9 a.m. from Washington.
