SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After a last minute thrilling victory over UNLV, Utah State head coach Blake Anderson knows his team needs to improve in a lot of areas.
Anderson addressed the good and the bad from their win over UNLV at his weekly press conference on Monday afternoon.
“Struggled in the run game early, we knew they were good up front,” said Anderson. “I thought we’d run the ball a little bit better but we didn’t give up on it, we were as patient as we could be as frustrating as that was. It played out big in the second half, a couple big runs, third and 19 conversion and then be able to run the ball in the end zone there late when they’re dropping eight and rolling coverage and doubling as many guys as they can. The ability to pop a runner there late when we had to have it was critical to us winning the game.”

Anderson was pleased with his defense and gave them a tremendous amount of credit.
“Defensively, predominantly, to finish the way they did was huge and gave our offense a chance to overcome some mistakes, the missed field goals, the penalties, just missed opportunities and so you got to give our defense tremendous credit for what they’re able to do,” stated Anderson. “To give up seven yards and no points on maybe 12 plays in the fourth quarter and to create the turnovers and just continue to give the offense opportunities to go out and finish it.”
Utah State has a short turnaround as they will host Colorado State on Friday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. MT on CBS Sports Network and heard on The Zone Sports Network.
