PROVO, Utah – Immediately after No. 23 BYU defeated No. 19 Arizona State; everyone then wanted to know the health status of quarterback Jaren Hall. Hall put everyone’s mind at ease after the game.

The redshirt sophomore quarterback ran for a first down late in the fourth quarter. On the play, two Arizona State players tackled him, leaving Hall on the ground for a few moments, leading to five BYU trainers attending to him. He walked off on his own and immediately went into BYU’s medical tent. Before the final horn going off in BYU’s 27-17 victory, Hall left the field for the locker room. Making many wonder if this was going to be another injury that takes him away from playing time.

Back in 2019, Hall suffered two concussions, cutting short both of his starts. Then last season, he was out with a hip injury.

After Kalani Sitake and teammates Isaac Rex and Max Tooley spoke in the press conference in the wee hours of Sunday morning, Hall stepped up to the postgame podium to talk with the assembled media. Typically when players suffer injuries in a game, they usually don’t speak immediately after the conclusion of a game. So it was an early indicator that Hall’s injury late in the fourth quarter wasn’t as serious as it looked in real-time.

When asked about his health, Hall responded, “I feel good. Just got the wind knocked out of me. Those are some big boys.”

Then in a follow-up question about his availability next week, Hall said he would be good to go for the Cougars’ next game against USF on Saturday, September 25.

Hall was 15-of-27 for 214 passing yards while also adding 38 yards on the ground. For the first time in Hall’s career, he threw an interception. He ended up with two interceptions throw in the 10-point victory over the nationally-ranked Sun Devils.

Baylor Romney stepped in on a moment’s notice for the injured Hall and was able to ice the game away for BYU on a bootleg call that resulted in a TD pass to tight end Isaac Rex.

BYU will look to continue their undefeated season next week against USF. Two years ago, Jaren Hall started his first career start at QB in a loss against the Bulls down in Tampa. The kickoff for BYU versus USF is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. (MT).
