SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Jazz have waived forward Jarrell Brantley.
The team extended a qualifying offer to Brantley during the offseason making him a restricted free agent but waived the third-year forward before training camp begins on September 28.
The Jazz originally acquired Brantley with the 50th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft in a trade with the Indiana Pacers for a future second-round pick.

Brantley appeared in 37 games over two seasons with Utah, averaging 2.4 points and 1.3 rebounds in 6.3 minutes per outing.
The forward had been on a two-way contract with the Jazz over each of the last two seasons and spent significant time with the Salt Lake City Stars during his rookie year.
During the offseason, the Jazz signed Rudy Gay and traded for forward Eric Paschall which created a numbers crunch behind Bojan Bogdanovic and Royce O’Neale.
Additionally, the Jazz are operating well above the NBA’s luxury tax and will have to pay an additional $3.25 on any guaranteed contract they add to the roster.
After waiving Brantley, the Jazz now have 17 players under contract. Just 13 of those contracts are fully guaranteed, while Miye Oni’s contract will become fully guaranteed if he remains on the roster through January.
As of tomorrow the @utahjazz will likely have the league minimum 13 players on guaranteed contracts.

NBA teams are required to carry a minimum of 13 full guaranteed players throughout the regular season.
Trent Forrest is on a two-way contract with the Jazz, while guards MaCio Teague and Derrick Alson Jr. have signed Exhibit 10 contracts with the team which essentially function as training camp invites.
The Jazz can carry as many as 20 players into training camp, but must trim the roster no more than 15 guaranteed contracts and two two-way contracts by opening night.
