Jason Shelley Named Starting Quarterback At FCS School

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah Utes and Utah State Aggies quarterback Jason Shelley is back in college football and will be the starting QB this season.
Jason Shelley has joined Missouri State, an FCS school that is coached by Bobby Petrino. Petrino named Shelley the starting QB ahead of their season opener against Oklahoma State on Saturday, September 4.
Shelley is an experienced QB at the FBS level, playing at Utah for three seasons before joining the Utah State Aggies when Gary Andersen was named the head coach for his second stint in Logan.

In four seasons, Shelley has thrown for 1,625 yards and 8 touchdowns in 22 games played. While at Utah State, Shelley was dismissed from the team after four games, which were all starts. Interim head coach Frank Maile didn’t comment on the matter at the time of his dismissal other than it was for a violation of team rules.
Just over two weeks later, Maile provided more information on Shelley’s dismissal.
“Jason did nothing illegal,” Maile told reporters. “He is a great young man. His dismissal was 100 percent my decision and not due to any misconduct or violation of institutional policies or rules.”
