SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that 2020 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are “close to an agreement” that would bring the quarterback back to Green Bay for “at least” the 2021 season.

Schefter reported the news on Monday, July 26.

“Packers are offering concessions and are close to an agreement that would bring Aaron Rodgers back to Green Bay for at least this season, sources tell ESPN. Deal is not done but it is close,” Schefter tweeted.

“Over the past weekend, the two sides were able to reach mutually-agreed upon terms that are close to convincing Aaron Rodgers to abandon plans he had to skip training camp and instead return for it,” the ESPN insider continued. “Concessions do not include more money, per sources.”

“The new agreement, once finalized, would help set up Aaron Rodgers’ departure from Green Bay after this season, per sources,” Schefter added.

“*The 2023 year in Aaron Rodgers’ contract – the last one in his current deal — would be voided, with no tags allowed in the future, per sources,” the NFL insider tweeted.

“The Packers would agree to review Aaron Rodgers’ situation at the end of this season, per sources,” Schefter continued.

“*Aaron Rodgers’ contract would be adjusted with no loss of income this year to give the Packers more cap room now,” the NFL reporter tweeted. “Mechanisms will be put in place to address Rodgers’ issues with the team.”

Green Bay opens its training camp later this week and it was unknown is Rodgers would show up. The quarterback hasn’t been involved in the Packers’ offseason workouts this offseason, but would be fined if he were to miss training camp.

During the summer, former Utah State quarterback Jordan Love took charge of Green Bay’s offense.

The Packers’ first preseason contest is against the Houston Texans on August 14.

Green Bay begins the regular season against the New Orleans Saints on September 12.
