PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball is gearing up to host LSU transfer, Seneca Knight.

Knight, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound guard/forward from Lafayette, Louisiana, will visit BYU next week. Jon Rothstein wrote on Twitter about Knight’s upcoming visit, and Knight shared that info on his personal Instagram stories.

Seneca Knight’s career in college basketball

Knight is currently in the Transfer Portal as an LSU transfer, but he never played a game for the Bayou Bengals. Coming out of Northside High School in Louisiana, Knight signed with the San Jose State Spartans in the Mountain West Conference. Knight was part of the Spartans program for two and a half years before deciding to opt out of the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 concerns.

Weeks after opting out of San Jose State, Knight transferred to LSU this past January.

Knight started in 50 games with the Spartans and was a third-team All-Mountain West Conference performer in the 2019-20 campaign. He averaged 17.1 points and 5.7 rebounds that season while shooting 40% from the field.

Knight is an intriguing prospect as he is a relative newcomer to the game of basketball. He started playing organized basketball six years ago.

Along with BYU, Georgia Southern and Virginia Tech are other programs showing interest in the high-upside prospect.

Knight has two years of eligibility remaining in his college career. But since this will be his second undergrad transfer, he would need to get a waiver from the NCAA to play immediately this season. However, he has a redshirt season available to use.

BYU basketball has one scholarship left

BYU basketball has one scholarship remaining for the 2021-22 roster. The Cougars have been selective in recent weeks as to who they pursue out of the Transfer Portal. For them to pursue Knight and have him arrange a visit on campus means there is a lot of interest on both sides.

BYU signed Milwaukee grad transfer Te’Jon Lucas out of the Transfer Portal this past May.
