Utah Football Leads Nation In Consecutive Seasons With Pick Six

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah football leads the nation in consecutive seasons with at least one pick-six. Utah has gone 17 consecutive seasons with one pick-six.

Last year, the Utes were in jeopardy of failing to secure a pick-six, but fortunately, star freshman Clark Phillips III ran an interception back in the final quarter of the final game to help secure a remarkable comeback against Washington State.

The team closest to the Utes is Iowa who has managed to secure at least one pick-six in 13 consecutive seasons. Then, Louisiana Tech has managed 10 seasons on the trot before the Ohio State Buckeyes enter the fold having done it in 9 consecutive years.

Utah has relied heavily on the production of its defense to find success under Kyle Whittingham. The program has sent a number of players into the NFL ranks, with many of those players being involved in the Utah secondary throughout their college careers.

Jaylon Johnson, Marcus Williams, Marquise Blair, Julian Blackmon, and Terrell Burgess are among the list of players to make a name for themselves in the NFL after developing at Utah.

The last time Utah went without having at least one pick-six in a season was in 2003 when Urban Meyer delivered a 10-2 season in his first year in charge.

Since then, Utah has never endured a season without at least one interception that was returned for a touchdown. Kyle Whittingham has always been able to celebrate one pick-six throughout his head coaching career. Truly remarkable.
