Sacramento State is coached by Brian Katz, who finished his 14th season as the head coach. He was at the helm when Sacramento State beat Utah in 2012. During the COVID-19 shortened season, the Hornets went 8-12 overall and 5-9 in Big Sky play. Unfortunately, they had 10 games canceled due to the pandemic.
Craig Smith is 2-0 against Sacramento State with both wins coming when he was the head coach of South Dakota.
