PROVO, Utah – No one will ever accuse Mark Pope of not having a good time. The third-year head coach of the BYU basketball program always finds a way to work in some fun.

On Monday, Pope shared a video on his personal Instagram page from Sawyer Glacier near Juneau, Alaska. Pope stood atop a glacier waving a BYU basketball flag, shouting, “Rise and shout, baby! The Cougars, we out! Yes, sir, we on the way to fame and glory; let’s go! B-Y-UUUUUUUUUU!”

Watch for yourself.

If you were down and out about your Monday, you probably have an extra kick in your step after that, I’d imagine.

For those wondering, the high temperature at Sawyer Glacier today was 39 degrees. Just a touch colder than the high of 66 degrees in Provo today. Imagine having the KSL Chief Meteorologist Kevin Eubank busting out the white suit this time of the year before Memorial Day. I’m cold just thinking about it.

Pope likely had quite a bit to celebrate last week when he landed guard Te’Jon Lucas from Milwaukee out of the Transfer Portal. That alone was a reason for a rise & shout for the third-year coach, who’s looking to lead BYU to another Top 25 season and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Mark Pope answered questions from BYU Basketball fans

Earlier this month, Pope had a Q&A with his followers on his Instagram page. Pope answered questions on his IG Stories that varied from favorite scripture, how he pitches the honor code to non-LDS recruits, and the chances of Alex Barcello returning next season.

Pope left a cliffhanger for fans hoping to hear if the Honorable Mention All-American guard is returning next year or not.

Mark Pope keeping things fun and loose in the off-season, even in the cold temperatures of Alaska.
