SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Washington linebacker Josh Calvert announced on Thursday evening that he is transferring to the Utah football program.
After two seasons with Washington, Josh Calvert decided to enter the portal and join the Utah Utes.
The Oak Park, California native announced his decision via Twitter on Thursday.
“Next step in the journey,” Calvert tweeted.

Josh has a younger brother, Ethan that signed with the Utes in the 2021 recruiting class as a four-star prospect at the linebacker position. The former Washington LB missed the 2019 season due to an injury he suffered in fall camp. During the 2020 season, Calvert did not see any game action.
It’s the third player to join the Utes from the transfer portal in a 24-hour span. Late Wednesday night, Washington safety Brandon McKinney decided to join the Utes as did former Oklahoma and UCLA wide receiver Theo Howard, who chose the Utah program on Thursday afternoon.
The linebacker room is stacked at Utah with one of the best in the country at the position in Devin Lloyd. They also have Nephi Sewell, Ethan Calvert, Trey Reynolds, Mason Tufaga. Also, Hayden Furey, Jonah Elliss, Moroni Anae and Andrew Mata’afa round out the position group.
Kyle Whittingham, Morgan Scalley and Colton Swan look to have the linebacker position full of talent for years to come.
