PROVO, Utah -BYU football signee Dylan Rollins earned a prestigious honor. He’s the Gatorade Player of the Year in his home state of Montana.

Rollins, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive lineman from Missoula, Montana, led Sentinel High School to a 10-0 record and Class AA state championship in 2020. This past year, he primarily played left guard, leading an offensive line that had 34 rushing touchdowns this past season.

This past December, he signed with BYU and is the highest-rated recruit to come out of Montana the last six years.

Dylan Rollins: Montana’s Gatorade Player of the Year

The Gatorade Player of the Year award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence and high academic achievement standards, and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Rollins maintained a 3.76 GPA at Sentinel High School.

According to a press release from the Gatorade Player of the Year team, Rollins volunteered locally on behalf of Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Special Olympics, a food bank, and flood relief efforts.

First BYU Football player from Montana since the 90s

Rollins will be the first BYU football player to letter for the Cougars from the state of Montana since Jeff Ellis in 1998.

“First off, I’d like to thank everyone who’s helped me get to this point. To all my family, friends, coaches, trainers, and teammates, I can’t thank you all enough for all the help and support you give me. I really couldn’t be here without you. Also, thank you to all the schools that have recruited me and followed me through this recruiting process,” wrote Rollins when he committed to BYU last December.

Rollins continued, “Above all else, I would like to thank God for all he has given me, especially the opportunity to play the game at the next level, and for blessing me with the abilities and people in my life that have gotten me to where I am. With that said, I’d like to announce my commitment to Brigham Young University!! Go Cougs!”

Rollins, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has not announced his mission plans yet. The Gatorade Player of the Year press release stated that Rollins “has signed a National Letter of Intent to play football on scholarship at Brigham Young University this fall.”
