SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The University of Utah men’s basketball program received a commitment from junior college guard Bostyn Holt.

Bostyn Holt spent two seasons at Coffeyville Community College before making the move to Utah basketball.

The Portland, Oregon native announced his decision via Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.

“We are thrilled Bostyn will be joining the Runnin’ Utes basketball family,” said Utah head coach Craig Smith. “Bostyn is a winner. He understands winning and will do whatever it takes to win. Bostyn is also a versatile player that brings a great combination of skills and athleticism to our team.”

In Holt’s first season at Coffeyville during the 2019-20 campaign, he played in 34 games with 17 starts, posting an average of 6.7 points per game on 50 percent field goal shooting and 35 percent from downtown.

This past season, Holt started in 21 of the 30 games he played, averaging 9.6 points on 57 percent shooting from the floor and 43 percent from beyond the arc.

In 2020-21, the Red Ravens finished with a 27-3 overall record and 18-2 in the Jayhawk conference. They went on to win the NJCAA National Championship.

Since Craig Smith took over the Utah basketball program, seven players have left including Rylan Jones (Utah State), Timmy Allen (Texas), Alfonso Plummer (Illinois), Jordan Kellier (Siena), Ian Martinez (Maryland), Mikael Jantunen (going pro) and Pelle Larsson (Arizona). Also Norbert Thelissen signed with Utah in the 2021 class but transferred to Utah State after the departure of Larry Krystkowiak.

Smith and his coaching staff has now brought in five players from the transfer portal. Holt is the first recruit from the junior college ranks. The other newcomers from the portal includes Gabe Madsen (Cincinnati), David Jenkins Jr. (UNLV), Rollie Worster (Utah State) and Marco Anthony (Utah State).

The Runnin’ Utes still have three scholarships available.
