SALT LAKE CITY – Former BYU linebacker Harvey Langi is taking a page out of Kyle Van Noy’s book by returning to the New England Patriots.
Langi’s agent, Kenny Zuckerman, announced the move for his client on social media. The contract is expected to be a one-year deal, the financials of the contract were not disclosed.

Langi is coming off his best season during his NFL career with AFC East rival, New York Jets. In 2020, Langi started in six games recording 60 tackles and recovering one fumble.

Coming out of BYU in 2017, the New England Patriots gave Langi an eye-popping $115,000 guaranteed as an undrafted free agent. At the time, it was the highest guaranteed contract ever for an undrafted free agent. The Patriots were always high on Langi’s potential. That potential was brought to a halt when he and his wife, Cassie, suffered serious injuries in a car accident during his rookie season.
The Patriots cut langi in 2018. He joined the New York Jets practice squad later that year and worked his way up the depth chart within the Jets organization.
The Patriots brought former BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy back in March on a two-year contract worth $13.2 million after the Miami Dolphins abruptly cut him after just one season.
During his three years at BYU from 2014-16, Langi played inside linebacker, outside linebacker, defensive end, and running back. He piled up 133 total tackles in three years and had two interceptions during his career with the Cougars.
Before BYU, Langi was a four-star running back recruit out of Bingham High School. He originally signed with Utah and played a year for the Utes, then transferred to BYU after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
OTA offseason workouts for the New England Patriots begin May 24th.
