SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – ESPN released its Football Power Index (FPI) and projected how the Utah State Aggies would perform in the upcoming 2021 college football season.

The Aggies have a projected record of 4.7 wins and 7.3 losses next season, according to FPI.

Prior to last year’s shortened season last year, the Aggies were projected to finish the 2020 campaign with a record of 4.5-7.5. USU finished last season with a 1-5 record.

Entering the 2021 season, Utah State owns a -13.4 FPI rating which ranked No. 120 in the country. The Aggies have a 0.3 percent chance to win the Mountain West Conference in 2021, according to FPI. It also gives Utah State a 2.1 percent chance to win the Mountain Division.

What is FPI?

FPI stands for ESPN’s College Football Power Index. It was created in 2013 “as a way to measure team strength and predict game and season outcomes.”

According to ESPN, “Each team’s FPI rating is composed of a predicted offensive, defensive and special teams component. These ratings represent the number of points each unit is expected to contribute to the team’s net scoring margin on a neutral field against an average FBS opponent.”
