PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball under Mark Pope will make their presence felt in the Transfer Portal. They did it last year, landing one of the nation’s top portal prospects in Matt Haarms, and they are casting a wide net once again.

According to a report from Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, Pope’s BYU program is in the final three for Washington Huskies guard Erik Stevenson.

Stevenson’s top three include BYU basketball and a pair of Power 6 programs in Butler and South Carolina.

A 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard, Stevenson prepped at Timberline High School in Lacey, Washington. He signed with Wichita State and Gregg Marshall out of high school, turning down offers from LSU, Utah, and Boise State.

In two years with the Shockers, Stevenson had 32 starts. He was Wichita State’s second-leading scorer averaging 11.1 points per game, and had a team-high 47 steals. Stevenson was one of eight players to leave the Wichita State program in 2020. Head coach Gregg Marshall later resigned amid allegations of physical and verbal abuse to his players.

This past season Stevenson played his only season at Montlake for Washington coach Mike Hopkins. Stevenson started in 23 games shooting 29.8 percent from three on a Huskies squad with a 5-21 record.

Stevenson was tied for 21st in the Pac-12 Conference for most three-pointers made this past season with 37.

BYU basketball in the Transfer Portal

Along with Stevenson, BYU basketball has been in talks with former Wasatch Academy guard Mike Saunders Jr. Saunders played his first collegiate season this past year at Cincinnati. He’s expected to announce the school he will be committing to on April 15th.
