SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we are looking at some of the luckiest moments in Utah sports history, in no particular order.
St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated every year on March 17. The holiday commemorates the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland but has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture.

1980 Holiday Bowl: McMahon’s Miracle Bowl
The 1980 Holiday Bowl is fondly known as the “Miracle Bowl”. Jim McMahon led the BYU Cougars in an incredible comeback over SMU.
McMahon’s last-second touchdown gave BYU the win by a score 46–45, but honestly, the entire fourth quarterback was a miracle.
Sundiata Gaines’ Game Winner
AND it happened in a green jersey. So fitting.
Gaines’ buzzer-beater led the Jazz to win over LeBron James and the Cleveland Caveliers.
Trevor Booker’s Kind-Of Shot Goes In
Hard to call this a shot, but it was and it went in. Booker’s shot is one of those moments you watch over and over again and it’s still amazing.

Troy Williams Late TD To Beat USC
In 2017, Utah quarterback Troy Williams found wide receiver Tim Patrick in the end zone as the 24th ranked Utes took the lead and the win over the USC Trojans, 28-24.
