SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell looked a little surprised after he missed an easy slam dunk during the opening quarter of Utah’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hawks hosted the Jazz at State Farm Arena on Thursday, February 4.

With 4:21 remaining in the first quarter, Mitchell had a pass stolen by Atlanta’s Kevin Huerter. Seconds later, Derrick Favors stole the ball from Huerter to regain possession for Utah. Favors dished the ball to Mitchell, who didn’t have a Hawks defender within 20 feet of him.

Mitchell dribbled towards the hoop, bounced towards the basket, and attempted to jam the ball with two hands. Unlike the result of most Mitchell dunks, this one didn’t fly through the cylinder.

Instead, the ball bounced high off the rim and into the hands of Atlanta’s Solomon Hill, leaving Mitchell with a stunned look on his face.

Despite Mitchell’s miss, the Jazz went on to finish the quarter with a 20-16 lead.

The fourth-year guard ended the quarter with seven points on 3-9 shooting, including 1-2 from beyond the arc.

Mitchell added two rebounds, one assist, and a steal during his first nine minutes on the floor.

He had a plus-nine rating in the quarter.

Utah’s game against Atlanta is broadcast on AT&T SportsNet and 97.5 FM.
