SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Jazz forward Georges Niang said that the team wants to “do something special” this season after the way last year’s playoff run ended.

Niang spoke about the team’s goals for the 2020-21 season during an interview on KSL NewsRadio’s Utah’s Morning News with Tim Hughes and Amanda Dickson.

Last season, the Jazz were eliminated from the postseason in a heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the Denver Nuggets in the first round. Utah held a 3-1 series lead before dropping the final three contests of the round.

“I think after last year, losing to Denver was really heartbreaking for us,” Niang said. “We thought we had a lot of things figured out but I think people remember the pain, you know, of that feeling of losing it and wanting to come back and sacrifice, and really make a run at this thing and do something special not only for ourselves, but for this community and the fan base that has given us so much joy.”

After a short off-season, Utah is a on a roll to start the 2020-21 campaign.

Niang and the Jazz are currently on a 10-game winning streak and own the best record in the NBA at 14-4.

“We’re really playing great basketball,” Niang said. “I think the best part is that we’re having a lot of fun doing it. I think we have a great group of guys. We wake up and love to go to work every day and I think it shows with the way we play. We play really fast and do a lot of sacrificing for each other, for the greater good of the team. That tends to lead into us winning games and we try not to pay too much attention to the streak.”

The Jazz will look to extend the winning streak to 11 games when they host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday, January 29 at 8 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on ESPN and 97.5 FM.
