Three Local Players Reach Super Bowl LV After Winning AFC Championship

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Three local NFL players advanced to Super Bowl LV with a win in the AFC Championship Game.

Daniel Sorensen, Darwin Thompson, and Marcus Kemp helped the Kansas City Chiefs to a 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC title game on Sunday, January 24.

Here is how all of the players with ties to the state of Utah fared during NFL Championship Sunday.

Former Utah Utes

Zack Moss – Running Back – Buffalo Bills (15-4)

The former Utah running back did not play in the AFC Championship after getting placed on the Injured Reserve with an ankle injury that he suffered in the AFC Wild Card game. The Bills fell to the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-24.

Former BYU Cougars

Jamaal Williams – Running Back – Green Bay Packers (14-4)

The former BYU running back had seven carries for 23 yards, four receptions for 22 yards, and one kick return for 30 yards in Green Bay’s 31-26 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Daniel Sorensen – Safety – Kansas City Chiefs (16-2)

The former BYU defensive back had six total tackles, five solo tackles, and a quarterback hit in Kansas City’s 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Next Game: Super Bowl LV vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, February 7 at 4:30 p.m. (MDT) on CBS.

Former Utah State Aggies

Jordan Love – Quarterback – Green Bay Packers (14-4)

The former Utah State quarterback was inactive for Green Bay’s 31-26 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Darwin Thompson – Running Back – Kansas City Chiefs (16-2)

The former Aggie running back and the Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills, 38-24.

Former Weber State Wildcats

Taron Johnson – Cornerback – Buffalo Bills (14-4)

The former Weber State defensive back had five total tackles, three solo tackles, and two pass breakups during the Bills’ 38-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Marcus Kemp – Wide Receiver – Kansas City Chiefs (16-2)

The former Layton High standout had an onside kick recovery during Kansas City’s 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills.
