SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Donovan Mitchell and the Jazz overpowered Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks for Utah’s eighth win of the season.

Utah hosted the Atlanta at Vivint Arena on Friday, January 15.

Mitchell’s 26 points surpassed Young’s four-point performance and the Jazz won the game, 116-92.

It was Utah’s fourth consecutive victory.

Donovan Mitchell’s Magic

The fourth-year guard was a dominant force throughout his 29 minutes on the court beginning in the first quarter. Mitchell began the game with seven points in the opening quater.

In the second quarter, he burst for 13 points and helped the Jazz to a 61-46 halftime lead.

He scored an efficient 26 points on 10-20 shooting, including 6-10 on three-pointers.

Mitchell’s shooting from beyond the arc set the franchise record for most consecutive games with two or more made triples.

In addition to his scoring total, Mitchell added three rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Trae Young’s Struggle

Utah’s defense zoned in on Young and prevented the budding NBA star from having a good night.

Young was limited to four points on 1-11 field goals, including 0-2 from downtown.

He ended the contest with only four points and a minus-17 rating.

Jazz Starters Show Out

Like Mitchell, Utah’s other starters also balled out against the Hawks.

Four Jazz starters scored in double figures.

Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley each scored 15 points and Bojan Bogdanovic poured in 17 points.

Conely and Bogdanovic each had efficient shooting nights shooting 50.0 percent from the field.

Gobert had a double-double with 13 rebounds, including three offensive boards. He also had four blocks.

Second Unit Scoring

Jazz sixth man Jordan Clarkson struggled to find the bottom of the net in the first half but caught fire in the third quarter. He ended the game with a bench-high 16 points.

Georges Niang added 10 points, two of which came on a driving two-handed slam dunk.

Overall, the Jazz shot 46.7 percent and 45.5 percent from three.

Utah held Atlanta to 41.3 percent from the field, including only 17.9 percent on shots from beyond the arc.

With the win, the Jazz improved to 8-4 on the season.

Utah’s next game is against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, January 17 at 6 p.m. (MDT).

The Jazz last faced the Nuggets during the first round of last year’s postseason.
