Matt Gay The Long Term Solution At Kicker For Los Angeles Rams

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah kicker Matt Gay has found a home in Los Angeles ahead of the upcoming NFL Divisional Round this weekend.
“Man, he is Mr. Automatic as of late,” head coach Sean McVay said in his Tuesday press conference. “He’s done a great job and it looks like we found our guy for a long time, really for the future.”
Gay has not missed a kick since week 13 when he went one for two in the Rams 38-28 win against the Cardinals. Two weeks prior, Gay joined the Rams after kicking issues haunted the Rams throughout the first half of the season.

Through seven games with the Rams, Gay is kicking at 88 percent efficiency. He has missed two field goals from an attempted 16 kicks. Both misses came within the first three weeks of his tenure in Los Angeles.

Gay was originally drafted with the 145th pick in round 5 of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During his rookie campaign he went 27 from 35 attempts. Prior to the 2020 season, Gay was beaten in camp by NFL veteran Ryan Succop.
The Rams are preparing for a Divisional Round showdown against the 13-3 Green Bay Packers. Kick off is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. on Saturday, January 16.
