SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – KSL Sports Live Game Coverage of the Utah Utes basketball team facing the Colorado Buffaloes at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

The Utah Utes are trying to snap a three-game losing streak after falling to Oregon on Saturday, 79-73 at home. Colorado has been off since Thursday after beating Oregon in Boulder.

It’s the second game of a stretch of four games in seven days for the Utes. This game was originally scheduled to be played in the regular season finale in March but was moved up since Utah and Colorado’s games against Oregon State were postponed.

Here are updates throughout the clash between Utah and Colorado.

First Half

The Utes got off to a 4-0 start with buckets from Timmy Allen and Riley Battin. Colorado got on the board with a wide open three-pointer from McKinley Wright. Can’t leave him open.

Utah responded with two buckets from Timmy Allen and Mikael Jantunen. Looks like another strong start for the Utes just like the Oregon game. Now they need to finish the job.

At the first media timeout, Utah was up 8-3 over Colorado with 15:30 remaining in the first half.

Under-16 Timeout

Branden Carlson and Alfonso Plummer checked in after the media timeout and both scored a bucket. Colorado kicked up the intensity a notch and had the lead for a moment but the Utes took it back.

Just before the under-12 media timeout, Ian Martinez took the ball to the rack and made the layup while getting fouled. Utah was up 16-14 with 10:20 left until halftime.

Under-12 Timeout

Utah hit a road block offensively. Not a ton of ball movement which has led to not a lot of shots made. The Utes made two of their last 10 field goals and trailed 19-17 before Larry Krystkowiak called a timeout. That was the same score minutes after Larry K called a timeout when the game went to the under-8 media timeout.

Under-8 Timeout

A jumpshot by Branden Carlson, five straight points from Plummer and a layup by Allen put Utah on a 9-0 run and gave them a 7-point lead approaching the under-4 media timeout. Jeriah Horne stopped the run with a floater in the lane.

Colorado took a timeout after Allen fed Carlson for an easy dunk. At the media timeout, Utah had a 33-24 lead with 2:12 until halftime.

Under-4 Timeout

During that two minute stretch from the under-4 media timeout to the end of the half, Utah scored 4 points and Colorado had 3. The Utes took a 37-27 lead into the locker room.

Timmy Allen and Alfonso Plummer scored 9 points apiece in the opening half. Mikael Jantunen and Branden Carlson each had 6 points. The Utes shot 54 percent from the field in the half but just 1-for-8 from beyond the arc.

Second Half

Colorado had a great start to the half going on a 6-0 run and cut into the 10-point deficit. Larry Krystkowiak called a timeout and was clearly upset. Utah’s lead was just four points just 1:56 into the half.

After a pair of free throws by Evan Battey, the Buffs tied the game and was on a 10-0 run. Utah had no answers to that point. They have had wide open looks from the three-point line and just couldn’t knock them down.

Under-16 Timeout

After allowing Colorado to go on a 15-0 run and take a five-point lead, the Utes finally scored their first bucket of the second half when Plummer drilled a three-pointer. CU answered with a putback on the next possession.

Pelle Larsson came in off the bench and nailed a triple to ease the bleeding. When the media timeout came, Colorado was on a 2:13 scoring drought. The Buffs were up 44-43 with 11:31 left in the game.

Under-12 Timeout

A nice alley-oop from Larsson to Carlson but Colorado has stretched the lead once again. In just his second game coming off the bench, Carlson has played really well. The Buffs had a 51-45 lead over the Utes with 7:21 remaining in the second half.

Under-8 Timeout

To be honest, not much has happened in this segment of the game. Colorado was in a scoring drought until Battey made free throws and the Utes have turned the ball over five times. Rylan Jones is in a big slump, just missed two free throws. He hasn’t shot the ball well in the last two games.

Timmy Allen is keeping the Utes close with 4 straight points and being aggressive going to the rim. At the final media timeout, Colorado had a 53-52 lead with 3:16 left.

Under-4 Timeout

Utah was down three with one minute left and Branden Carlson went out with an injury. Deshawn Schwartz extended the lead with a deep two-pointer. When Utah had possession, Riley Battin missed a three-pointer.

Colorado knocked down two free throws which basically put the game away. The Buffs picked up a 65-58 win over the Utes.

Utah dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in Pac-12 play, while losing their last four games. They will return to the Huntsman Center on Thursday, January 14 to face Stanford at 3 p.m. MST on ESPNU.
