Stars To Compete In Disney World G League Season

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After much speculation, the Salt Lake City Stars announced they would be partaking in the NBA G League season which will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney Resort in Florida.

Discussions about the season had been ongoing before the team announced its participation.

“While we are disappointed that we will not be able to play in front of our fans in Salt Lake City, we fully support the league’s decision and appreciate the amount of effort by so many that has gone into finding a workable solution to be able to play a 2020-21 NBA G League season,” Stars President Jonathan Rinehart said. “We look forward to the opportunity to once again host games in Utah in the future.”

The NBA completed it’s 2019-20 season on the same campus in front of empty arenas during the July-October months.

“We are excited for the opportunity to compete in Orlando and continue the development process for our players and staff,” Stars Vice President of Basketball Operations Bart Taylor said. “We had an excellent 2019-20 season on the court and anticipate building off that momentum under new head coach Nathan Peavy.”

Peavy was named head coach of the Stars in November after former coach Martin Schiller was hired by a Lithuanian basketball club.

The Stars are one of 18 G League teams that plan to compete during the season. League play begins in February and will feature a single-elimination playoff tournament.
