SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Andrew Putna will be back in the Claret and Cobalt in 2021 after signing a new deal with the club today.
“First and foremost, I love Andrew’s work ethic,” Head Coach Freddy Juarez said. “He understands hard work and that says everything about what RSL is. He comes early, he leaves late. Now he’s a proven quality goalkeeper in the league who is going to continue to grow.”
A year ago, Putna broke onto the scene and attempted to fill the void left by legendary goalkeeper Nick Rimando. In 2020, he appeared in 15 games, making 38 saves along the way. In total, Putna has played in 22 games.

However, unlike a year ago, Putna will be required to re-earn his starting spot in between the sticks. During the final regular-season game in 2020, manager Freddy Juarez opted to start David Ochoa over Putna. Ochoa is considered by many in the soccer world to be the next big RSL goalkeeper. His youth career has been filled with national team call-ups as well.
“I’m excited to be back with the organization for my fifth season,” Putna said. “I can’t wait to help RSL on and off of the field for the coming year.”
Putna is entering his fifth year with the RSL organization after being drafted in the third round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, 48th overall.
