PROVO, Utah – One loss was all it took for BYU football to tumble down the Coaches and AP Top 25 rankings.

BYU suffered its first defeat on Saturday against undefeated Coastal Carolina on the road near Myrtle Beach. The Cougars came up two yards short from pulling off the comeback victory and maintaining their perfect season.

Now with a 9-1 record, the tumble down the rankings began for BYU.

The Coaches Poll dropped BYU from No. 8 to No. 16 in the new rankings. Associated Press was a little bit softer fall going from No. 8 to No. 14.

Coastal Carolina moved up from 14 to 11 in the AP and only one spot in the Coaches from 14 to 13.

BYU returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 12 against San Diego State in the Cougars Senior Day. The Cougars have an opportunity to finish ranked in the final Coaches Poll for the first time since 2011 and the AP Poll since 2009.

The College Football Playoff rankings are released this Tuesday. Prior to BYU’s loss against Coastal Carolina, the Cougars were ranked No. 13 in the Committee’s rankings.
