Report: LeBron James Signs Contract Extension With Lakers

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – LeBron James has signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. According to The Athletic’s Sham Charania, the deal is worth $85 million and will begin next offseason.
James signed with the Lakers in the summer of 2018 and led the fabled franchise to a championship this past season.
“Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has agreed to a two-year, $85 million maximum contract extension with the franchise, CEO of Klutch Sports, Rich Paul, told @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium,” Charania tweeted.

James’ deal is set to expire in Los Angeles just as his oldest son, LeBron James Jr. graduates from high school. Should the NBA and the league’s Players Association allow prep players to declare for the draft right after high school, the pair could be the first father-son duo to play in the NBA at the same time.
The most recent championship was James’ fourth title in 10 trips to the NBA Finals. The Lakers hadn’t won a championship since 2010 under the tutelage of the late Kobe Bryant.
James has career averages of 27.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.4 assists during his 17-year career. The superstar has appeared in 16 All-Star games, been named to 16 All-NBA teams, earned four MVP trophies, and was named Finals MVP in each of his championship runs.
Despite turning 36 later this month, James shows no signs of slowing down. The Lakers guard led the NBA in assists per game for the first time in his career this passing, averaging a career-best 10.2 assists per contest.
