EPHRAIM, Utah – Snow College has a new head football coach in Zac Erekson. Erekson, a former Springville High graduate, played one season as a wide receiver at BYU in 2006.

Erekson takes over for Andrew Mitchell, who resigned from the position after one full season as head coach. The 2020 season was postponed due to COVID-19 and is expected to be played in the spring, according to the NJCAA. No schedule for the spring season has been announced at this time.

Erekson began his coaching career in 2009 in Texas, where he was an assistant coach at Abilene Cooper High in Abilene, Texas. After Texas, Erekson returned to Utah in 2016, where he was the head football coach and athletic director at Skyline High School. He was 13-18 in three years with the Eagles.

“Coach Erekson brings a lot of energy and football coaching experience to the program,” Snow College athletics director Robert Nielson said. “He has shown a great deal of leadership among coaches and student-athletes as we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times. We look for Coach Erekson to continue the great tradition of Snow College football.”

This season will mark the second year Erekson is part of the Snow College program. Erekson was the associate head coach and defensive backs assistant during Snow’s 5-3 season in 2019.

“First, I would like to thank President Cook, and our athletic director, Rob Nielson, for the opportunity to lead this program,” Erekson said. “We look forward to leading this storied program into the future. We recognize the immense responsibility we have to nurture these young men and prepare them for the next chapters of their lives. We are anxious and excited to get to work.”

BYU connections on Snow College staff

Along with Erekson, Snow College has two other former BYU players on the staff in Ephraim. Former sack artist Jan Jorgensen is the current defensive coordinator at Snow, and former BYU linebacker Butch Pau’u is coaching the linebackers.
