ECHL Confirms Start Date For Utah Grizzlies, 2020-21 Season

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The ECHL confirmed the start date for the league’s 2020-21 season, including the Utah Grizzlies.
On Friday, October 9, after discussions with the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, the league made its plans official for the upcoming season with a new start date of December 11.
“The ECHL is excited to be able to confirm the beginning of the 2020-21 Season by working with our local health officials and the PHPA to develop protocols for the safe return of our Players, fans, and employees,” said ECHL Commissioner Ryan Crelin. “The ECHL is getting back to hockey, as we all work together to bring live entertainment back to our communities.”
Following the announcement, the Grizzlies organization shared their excitement for the season on social media.
“BREAKING The @echlhockey and the @thephpa has confirmed December 11th as the start date for the 2020-2021 season! Lets play some hockey!” the franchise posted on Instagram.

The 2020-21 ECHL season was originally slated to begin on October 16.
In August, the league announced a revised anticipated start date of December 4. The official and confirmed schedule was pushed back a week from that revised date.
In March, the league announced the rest of the 2019-20 regular season and postseason were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Last season, Utah posted a 34-17 record before the season was canceled.
The Grizzlies have played at the Maverick Center in West Valley City, Utah, since 1997.
