BYU Climbs Top 25 Polls Receiving Highest Rankings In 11 Years

Oct 4, 2020, 12:18 PM | Updated: Oct 5, 2020, 1:05 am

PROVO, Utah – BYU football is one of the hottest teams in college football right now. The Cougars are 3-0 for the first time in the Kalani Sitake era.

BYU’s level of play has impressed the pollsters where they’ve risen to No. 15 in both the Coaches and the AP Poll, resulting in the highest rankings for the Cougars since 2009.

The pollsters had BYU at No. 22 in both sets of rankings last week and they are in lock-step once again moving the Cougars up seven spots. Making BYU one of the biggest risers in the polls this week.

Only Tennessee had as big of a jump as BYU in this week’s AP Top 25 poll.

In 2009, BYU rose to as high as No. 7 in the national rankings. This year’s BYU team has seven games remaining on its 2020 schedule after adding Boise State and San Diego State this past week to the slate. Computer projections have BYU favored in every game they play this season, setting the Cougars up to continue a climb up the rankings.

Programs from the Big Ten, Pac-12, MAC, and Mountain West are allowed to appear in the rankings right now. But those leagues don’t start until later this season.

BYU returns to action this Saturday when they host the UTSA Roadrunners at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. The game can be seen nationally on ESPN2 and heard on KSL NewsRadio, your legacy home of the BYU Cougars.
