SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Donovan Mitchell showed his disapproval of violence aimed at two Los Angeles Police Department officers who are were shot over the weekend. The LAPD officers were ambushed by an unknown gunman as they sat in their police vehicle. The suspect remains at large.

The Utah Jazz All-Star retweeted ESPN Analyst and long time NFL defensive back Ryan Clark who called for an end to violence.

“This can’t happen,” Clark tweeted. “We can’t fight evil with evil. We can’t fight hate with hate, nor violence with violence. We all want solutions, we all want equality but we don’t create a larger divide. Let’s work together moving forward. Prayers to the officers involved and their families.”

The officers, a 31-year-old female, and a 24-year-old male remain hospitalized after surgery.

Mitchell Outspoken Against Violence

Mitchell has been outspoken against violence since entering the NBA. In 2018, the guard called for an end to gun violence after 17 students and teachers were killed at a high school in Parkland, Florida. Mitchell wrote “End gun violence” on his shoes in the game following the massacre.

The third-year guard has continued to use his voice to speak out against injustices, including taking a leading role during the NBA’s restart plan in Orlando speaking out against social injustice and police violence towards the Black community.

Mitchell wore custom shoes during a game in Orlando remembering the life Breonna Taylor who was killed by police in Louisville where the guard attended college.

“I feel like as African American’s we’ve been crying for help and crying for someone to listen to us for so long,” Mitchell said. “With what’s been going on in the world now this is the perfect time to go out there and continue to have this uncomfortable conversation.”
