Group Of Local Players Cut By NFL Teams Before League’s 53 Player Active Roster Deadline

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – NFL teams cut multiple football players with ties to the state of Utah prior to the league’s deadline to trim active rosters.

Saturday, September 5, was the league’s deadline for organizations to cut the number of players on active rosters from 80 to 53.

During the final roster cuts, the following players from Utah, BYU, and other school in the state, were waived:

Former Utah Utes

  • Javelin Guidry – Cornerback (cut by New York Jets)

  • Tyler Huntley – Quarterback (cut by Baltimore Ravens)
  • Josh Nurse – Defensive Back (cut by Baltimore Ravens)

  • Francis Bernard – Linebacker (cut by Dallas Cowboys)

  • Darrin Paulo – Offensive Tackle (cut by Denver Broncos)

  • Jackson Barton – Offensive Tackle (cut by Kansas City Chiefs)

  • Pita Taumoepenu – Defensive End (cut by Seattle Seahawks)

  • Matt Gay – Kicker (cut by Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

  • Jared Norris – Linebacker (cut by Washington Football Team)
  • Nate Orchard – Defensive End (cut by Washington Football Team)

Former BYU Cougars

  • Ty’Son Williams – Running Back (cut by Baltimore Ravens)

  • Dayan Lake – Defensive Back (cut by Los Angeles Rams)

  • Bronson Kaufusi – Tight End (cut by New York Jets)
  • Corbin Kaufusi – Offensive Line (cut by New York Jets)

Former Utah State Aggies

  • Tipa Galeai – Linebacker (cut by Green Bay Packers)

Former Weber State Wildcats

  • Andrew Vollert – Tight End (cut by Indianapolis Colts)

  • Jonah Williams – Defensive End (cut by Los Angeles Rams)

Former High School Players

  • Branden Bowen (Corner Canyon/Ohio State) – Offensive Tackle (cut by Carolina Panthers)

The 2020 NFL season is scheduled to begin when the Houston Texans play the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, September 10. The contest will begin at 6:20 p.m. (MDT) and will broadcast on KSL TV.
